I'd heard about it a couple of years ago. And I remember Clarkson saying it wasn't very good, because once you get past the turbo lag it has a very very narrow power band.

Yeah we know, but they don't sell them over here :(
Subaru's excuse is that they can't make an automatic transmission that can handle the diesel's awesomeness (OK fine they actually said torque, but still) (in Europe the diesel is manual-only)
They should sell that diesel as manual-only until they can design an autobox to handle to torque.

that was their excuse when they wouldn't put a manual in the SVX though..
That and the Diesel Outback comes with a CVT.

Subaru does have them, there are lots of opposed diesels out there, the US military is developing a super efficient one for their vehicles.
